Sergio Tiempo
Born in Caracas in 1972, he began studying the piano with his mother, Lyl Tiempo. He was performing in public by the age of three, and at seven he gave recitals in Menton and London. In 1986 he debuted in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw’s “Great Pianists” series. Since then he has played with such great orchestras as those of Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Montreal, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Rotterdam, Lyons, Liège and Tokyo (Metropolitan, Yomiuri, Philharmonic) and with the Solisti di Mosca conducted by Vladimir Spivakov. He has taken part in numerous festivals, such as Schleswig- Holstein, Verbier (together with Martha Argerich, Misha Maisky and Barbara Hendricks), Toulouse (in a Beethoven Cycle with Alicia de Larrocha and Maria- João Pires), La Roque d’Anteron, Colmar, Montpellier and the Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Piano Festival in Bergamo and Brescia. He dedicates much of his time to chamber music, especially as part of a duo with his sister, Karin Lechner. He has accompanied Mischa Maisky and Martha Argerich on tour and has made several recordings for JCV.
