Kathia Buniatishvili

 

Khatia Buniatishvili was born in Batumi, Georgia, in 1987. From 1991 to 1997 she attended the Tbilisi Music School, where she was a pupil of Z. Paliashvili, with whom she studied until 2004. From 2004 to 2006 she was a pupil of V. Saradjishvili at the State Conservatory of the Georgian capital. For the last year she has been living in Vienna, where she follows the classes of Oleg Maisenberg at the University of Music and the Performing Arts. She gave her first concert at the age of six, with the Tbilisi Chamber Orchestra. She attended master classes with Claude Frank at Verbier and with François-René Duchable at Annecy and Paris. She has given concerts at the Verbier Festival, in Gstaad, Lucerne, St. Moritz, Prague, Paris, Vienna and Moscow festivals. In 2005 she undertook a series of concerts with the UBS Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in Geneva, Zurich, Nantes and Brussels, and she participated in the Tbilisi Autumn festival’s final concert with the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vakhtang Kakhidze. In 2006 she played with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and she was invited by Gidon Kremer to participate in the International Chamber Music festival at Lockenhaus. In 2009 she was given the opportunity to perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall. She received the London Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award and signed an exclusive world-wide recording contract with Sony. During her studies she has benefitted from a scholarship awarded by BSI AG, Lugano.
