Pianist, harpsichordist and conductor. His programmes, which are noteworthy for their inventiveness, originality and rigour, often cross the border into theatre and broaden the traditional concert environment. He and Bruno Canino have been a duo-piano team since 1953. He has played with such conductors as Abbado, Bertini, Boulez, Brüggen, Chailly, Maderna and Muti, and with such orchestras as the BBC Symphony, Concertgebouw, Israel Philharmonic, La Scala, London Symphony, Orchestre de Paris, Philadelphia, Cleveland and New York Philharmonic. Works have been written for him by Berio, Boccadoro, Bussotti, Castaldi, Castiglioni, Clementi, Corghi, De Pablo, Donatoni, Lucchetti, Morricone, Mosca, Picco, Sciarrino, Sollima, Togni and Ugoletti. He has toured with Berio, Dallapiccola and Stockhausen and has given single-composer concerts with Boulez, Cage and Ligeti. He is the founder and conductor of the Novecento e Oltre (Twentieth Century and Beyond) ensemble. In 2003, together with Alessandro Lucchetti and Federico Mondelci, he created the Fata Morgana Trio, which plays crossover music. His love of the lieder repertoire has led him to work with singers Roberto Abbondanza, Anna Caterina Antonacci, Cathy Berberian, Luisa Castellani, Laura Cherici, Gloria Davy, Mirko Guadagnini, Sarah Leonard, Anna Moffo, Alide Maria Salvetta, Luciana Serra, Lucia Valentini Terrani, Lorna Windsor and others. For many years he has worked regularly with Gemma Bertagnolli. He has taught at the Parma and Milan conservatories and at the “Incontri col Maestro” Piano Academy at Imola. He is currently a professor at the “Tema” International Academy in Milan.
