Anna Mahaffy

 

Anna, born in 1997 in Vienna, started playing the violin at the age of three. In 2004 she entered the class of Evgenia Polatschek at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. From 2008 she studied with Pierre Amoyal and from 2010 with Dora Schwarzberg. She has participated in master classes with Ivry Gitlis, Midori Goto and Igor Ozim. She has received numerous prizes at national and international violin competitions: eight 1st Prizes at the Austrian competition Prima la Musica (2002-2010), 1st Prize at the Musikolympiade Wien, 1st Prize at the Rovere d’Oro (2004) in San Bartolomeo (Italy), 1st Prize at the Monterosa Kawai (2006) in Varallo (Italy), Prize of International Summer Academy Mozarteum Salzburg in 2009, 3rd Prize at the Moscow International David Oistrakh Violin Competition (2010), 1st Prize and winner of the Music Competition Euterpe (2011) in Bari (Italy), Prize Musica Juventutis (2011) Vienna, and others. Anna made her debut with orchestra at the age of six at the Vienna Festival. She has performed as a soloist and has given recitals in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Russia, Italy, Japan and Egypt. Since 2008 she is also a member of Yehudi Menuhin Life Music Now.
