Bruno Pietri

Bruno Pietri began studying the piano at the age of five, displaying from the outset a particular gift for improvisation. He received tuition in piano first from Jules Martinez in Oran and then from Pierre Sancan in Paris. He graduated at the Geneva Conservatoire and in 1969 was awarded first prize for virtuosité (under Louis Hiltbrand). He began studying composition at the age of twelve with Charles Troulay and went on to study with Jean Rivier and Maurice Duruflé. As a pianist he has performed in many countries, both in recitals and in collaboration with artists such as Martha Argerich, Gabriel Bacquier, Armin Jordan and Maxence Larrieu. He has written works for the piano, orchestral and chamber music, and for electronic instruments, and has also made programmes for radio and television. His commitment to teaching can be seen in the number of his pupils who have won prizes in international competitions.
