Nicholas Angelich
Born in the United States in 1970, Nicholas Angelich began studying the piano at the age of five with his mother. When he was thirteen, he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris where he studied with Aldo Ciccolini, Yvonne Loriod, Michel Béroff and won the First Prize for piano and chamber music. Nicholas Angelich followed master-classes with Leon Fleisher, Dmitri Bashkirov, Maria João Pires. In 1989 he won the Second Prize of the International Piano Competition R. Casadesus in Cleveland and in 1994 the First Prize of the International Piano Competition Gina Bachauer. Recently he performed with the Orchestre National de France and Marc Minkowski, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Myung-Whun Chung, Orchestre National de Lyon and David Robertson, Orchestre National de Bordeaux and Yutako Sado, Orchestre National de Lille and Matthias Bamert, Orchestre de Liège and Alexandre Dimitriev, as well as recitals in Hanover, Geneva, Luxembourg, Rome, Lisbon, Brescia, Paris. In May 2003, he made his debuts with the New York Philharmonic under Kurt Masur. Always enthusiastic about playing chamber music, he has partners such as Gautier and Renaud Capuçon, Augustin Dumay, Gérard Caussé, Alexander Kniazev, Dmitri Makhtin and the Ysaye and Prazak Quartets. He has recorded for Harmonia Mundi, Lyrinx and Virgin Classics.
