Alexander Rabinovitch-Barakovsky

 

Alexander Rabinovitch-Barakovsky was born in Baku in 1945. At the Moscow Conservatory he studied the piano with Fleishmann and composition with Kabalevski and Piroumov. He left the Soviet Union in 1974 and moved to Geneva. He is very active as pianist and, together with Martha Argerich, he played and recorded works by Mssiae, Schumann, Rachmaninov, Brahms, Mozart, Dukas, Richard Strauss and Ravel. As composer some critics define his music conception as “musical anthropology”. His main works are all part of a global work-in-progress called “Anthology of Archaic Rituals - In Search of the Center”. He ha presented his works at various festivals: the Venice Biennale, Steirischer Herbst, Wittener Kammermusiktage, Almeida Festival in London, Alternativa in Moscow, Musiktriennale in Köln, etc. As a conductor ha has given public performances in Europe and Japan. He conducted the Padova Chamber Orchestra in a recording of Mozart’s Piano Concerto K 466 with Martha Argerich as a soloists (published by Teldec). In 2000 his live performance in Warsaw of Mozart’s “Haffner” Symphony, Liszt Concerto n° 1 and Chopin’s Piano Concerto n°1 with Sinfonia Varsovia and Martha Argerich as a soloist was published by Accord.
