| From Locarno to Venice gliding along the water’s surface a journey takes place that commences in the west and stretches 550 kilometres eastward. From Switzerland to the Serenissima, descending the great Naviglio, the most ancient and multi functional canal in Europe, up to Milan’s historical centre. From there the voyage continues through to Pavia and Torino until it reaches the confluent of the Po, and further still, its delta and the lagoon of Venice. A voyage gliding across nature and through magnificent urban landscapes such as the cities of Cremona, Parma, Mantova and Ferrara. The courts of the Italian Renaissance are all situated along the grand water-way. In only a few years such a dream could come true. The project is estimated to cost between two to three billion Lira and the first grants to finance the restoration of the water course, to its full navigability between the Lago Maggiore and Cremona, have already been found. |
