| Ryan Atimkhan lives and works surrounded by a moon-like landscape, an expanse of stones and rocky hills, where silence is interrupted only by the majestic flutter of eagles. In the heart of the Kasazakh and Muslim territory, a few kilometres from the Russian and Chinese border, Atimkhan has been struggling for years to maintain an educational outpost for some 500 children and teens, mostly the sons and daughters of nomadic breeders. His unshakeable optimism and disarming common sense are an inspiration to this community which, thanks to him, brings up its youth to respect differences and freedom. This “king of the moon” introduces us to his world with graceful irony. It is a world full of joy and colours, poor, but full of dignity; a world where life has preserved its true and deep meaning.
